For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. - Hebrews 4:12
You are not going to believe me, but I saw Hebrews 4:12 twice on the same day at two different places. I was casually browsing through John Piper's Desiring God website, came across an article called 'How Can I Change' and the verse appeared there.
At night, as I was using Bible Gateway to read the bible, Hebrews 4:12 appeared right in front of my pupils again as the 'Verse of the Day'.
God has His crazy ways to make sure you see what He is trying to tell you.
One thing I get out of Hebrews 4:12: God's Living Word is Alive, Powerful and Sharp.
God's Word is Alive. Since God is our Living God, his Words are living as well. He breathes new life into us through His Word (bible).
God's Word is Active. His Word is active in the lives of those who hear it. Just like today, Hebrews 4:12 appeared to me twice, you can never run away from what God is actively trying to tell you.
God's Word is sharper than any two-edged sword. How sharp is it? His Words are able to cut through us, pierce through all human spirit, the deepest and innermost part of you. God's word penetrates the deepest part of us and assesses what's there. Just like a surgeons' scalpel, it removes all the dead tissues in our lives, allowing us to heal.
God is able to divide our soul (our emotions, mind and will) and our spirit (the deepest part where God dwells in us) through his Living Word.
God judges and sees everything. Not only the physical things we do but He knows our thoughts and intentions. We may think we can hide or conceal our inner being from others, but God sees everything. We are naked before him! Just like having an X-ray vision, He sees through us and can minister to us in all areas of life.
His Word brings life and power into each of us, that is why it is important to spend time in His Word. As you read His Word today, don't focus only on His Words in the Bible but focus also on your relationship with Him.
Let His Love and Grace be in your life!
