In conjunction with #ColumbusDay, I have a joke to tell everyone. I heard this a few years back from a friend.
Christopher Columbus set off on his ship with a mission to discover new territory. Among the crew, there was a Chinese guy, named Ah Beng, who speaks the Cantonese dialect.
One fine day, the crew on the ship spotted a new continent. At that moment, Ah Beng was busy below the decks cleaning, when Columbus summoned the crew on deck.
Columbus asked his crew, "What shall we name this new world?"
Ah Beng scrambled up and said in Cantonese, "Hai mee-eh leh ka?" ("What's happening?")
And thus, America got its name.
*You have to understand or speak Cantonese to comprehend the joke.
